Campus Connector

Concept Design, 2015

A cluster of office buildings originally developed as a single campus were subsequently bisected by a rail line.  An easement allowed for the construction of a walking bridge to reconnect the buildings. Our studio was commissioned to explore how best to reconnect the two clusters of space.

We proposed an elevated, secure-access courtyard to create an amenity space as well as a connection between the two parts of the campus. In order to maintain the open-air feel, we thickened the edge planting to protect the people from the noise of the trains, but also to protect the trains from the unwanted debris of the bridge pedestrians. The structure of the bridge itself is a simple span, easily accommodated by an industrial truss.
